LAS VEGAS — With five minutes remaining in the third quarter, the San Francisco 49ers pulled within a score of the Detroit Lions after trailing by 17 points at halftime of the NFC Championship game.
Then, the tide shifted on the first play of Detroit’s next drive.
Tashuan Gipson, a former University of Wyoming standout, crashed into Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs and stripped the ball from his grasp. 49ers defensive end Arik Armstead fell on the ball as Gipson lost sight of it, but the crowd’s roar indicated whose possession it was for him. LARAMIE, Wyo.—With Boise State leading University of Wyoming 20-17 and only 1:48 left in regulation, the game looked to be over Saturday following a UW interception. However, while trying to run out the clock, Boise running back George Holani had the ball stripped and picked up by Wyoming defensive lineman DeVonne Harris who returned the fumble to Boise’s 21-yard line. TUCSON, Ariz.—The Wyoming Cowboys’ fifth bowl game appearance in seven years was a return to the desert in the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl. Streamed live from the Barstool Sports website, the game pitted Wyoming against the Ohio Bobcats (9-4).
Ohio, a formidable opponent from the Mid-American Conference (MAC), was the runner-up in the MAC after losing to Toledo in the conference championship. But the Bobcats’ starting quarterback, Kurtis Rourke, tore his ACL against Ball State late in the season, preventing him from playing in the championship game or this bowl game. CONTINUE READING…

A few weeks before the 2019 NBA season tipped off, broadcasters gathered for their annual preseason meetings in Jersey City, New Jersey. The featured speaker, Chris Mullin, fielded questions from the crowd, most notably about his experiences with the 1992 Dream Team. Facing the room of about 100 people, Mullin immediately looked at Jeff Turner, his teammate on the 1984 U.S. men’s basketball team, and asked a question of his own.
The 12-player gold medal-winning roster, led by coach Bob Knight and a Hall of Fame assistant coaching staff, consisted of 11 future NBA first-round draft picks and three future Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductees, including a 21-year-old Michael Jordan. The team went 8-0 in Los Angeles, capping off their run with a 96-65 gold medal victory over Spain. CONTINUE READING…

Hundreds of unionized medical assistants, case managers and other non-nurse staff across Howard Brown Health are set to go on a two-day strike next week amid stalled contract negotiations. The union, Howard Brown Health Workers United, will go on its second unfair labor practice strike of the year on Nov. 14 and 15 at clinics across the city, including Hyde Park’s location at 1525 E. 55th St.
